Overview
- Performing scientific researches, mainly ophthalmological, aiming best benefit for patients
- Examination of all pathological specimens, either from internally or externally from any outside clinic or hospital
- Using updated modern analytical procedures as transmission, scanning electron microscopy, special stains and immunehistochemistry
The unit acts as clinical support and research division within RIO, consolidates its broader mission.
Vision
To be a regional center of excellence in ophthalmic pathology both in diagnostic and research aspects.
Mission
The unit introduces two main services:
– Routine work, aiming to provide accurate reliable, timely and comprehensive mainly ophthalmic pathology diagnostic services.
The unit handles all referred surgical, cytology and impression cytology specimens from RIO’s hospital and regional centers
– Research work, the unit supports the research program of RIO, introducing all technical facilities and pathologic assessment for all researchers either from inside or outside RIO.

Services for patients
- Examination of all pathological specimens, either from internally or externally from any outside clinic or hospital -using updated modern analytical procedures as special stains and immunohistochemistry to reach the correct diagnosis.
- Performing all types of pathological specimens including experimental using updated pathological techniques: transmission, scanning electron microscopy and Semithin sections for all types of specimens are mainly our services to the researchers.
Training
The unit offers training program for researchers and technicians.
