New Labs
distinguished labs in RIO. It was established in year 2000 by Ass. Res. Prof./ Dr. Maha Haggag Head of Microbiology & Immunology Unit in RIO.
The Allergy Lab provides Treatment of Allergic Conjunctivitis using immunotherapy as eye drops for the first time in Egypt prepared from natural allergenic extracts to which the patients are actually exposed. (Patent No: 2006040138).
It also provides Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis & Allergic Bronchitis using natural allergenic extracts as SC vaccines.
Research Institute of Ophthalmology has established the stem cell laboratory under the umbrella of the cornea unit in order to eliminate the waiting lists for corneal degeneration patients.
RIO Stem Cell Lab, is established according to Clean Room Technology.
It uses gradient air pressure and HEPA filters.
It is composed of 2 rooms (4 sections) with sequential transition from class E to D to C to B particle count ,class B.
The Stem cell lab aims to perform different techniques and experiments for treating corneal diseases So we aim to:
Study the effect of Limbal stem cells cultured on amniotic membrane on corneal ulcer rabbit model.
Use Mesenchymal stem cells isolated from rabbit bone marrow to be differentiated to corneal epithelial cells on corneal ulcer rabbit model.
Further research in Retinal Diseases will follow.
Laboratory Animal House
It provides pure breeds of experimental animals required for the institute researches or outside researchers. The chamber is equipped with operations unit. It also provides supervisors specialized scientific advice.
