Establishment of a New Research Unit (Ocular Pharmacology)

A new research unit in Ocular Pharmacology, the first of its kind in Egypt, was established.

  • Approved by the Board of Directors of the Research Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) on October 6, 2020
  • Officially authorized by the Central Agency for Organization and Administration

Cooperation Protocol with the Faculty of Science - Alexandria University

A cooperation protocol was signed between RIO and the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University (Biological Survey and Preclinical Studies Laboratory), aiming to:

  • Develop and support joint scientific research frameworks
  • Strengthen collaboration in scientific, research, training, and development fields
  • Coordinate joint research and development projects
  •  Exchange expertise between both parties

Research and Industrial Cooperation Agreements

  • City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications (CSRT), Borg El Arab
    An agreement was signed to develop and produce new ophthalmic drugs with economic value, contributing to local production and reducing imports.
  • Center for Drug Discovery and Development – Ain Shams University

A cooperation protocol was signed to develop antibacterial drugs for infectious eye diseases using natural, cost-effective products.

RIO TICO Overview

  • A contract was signed on January 27, 2020, between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) and the Research Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) to establish the TICO Office (Technology, Innovation, Commercialization, and Technology Transfer Office).

TICO Additional Activities and Achievements

  • Organized 49 online workshops and lectures for researchers
  • Developed prototypes of innovative ophthalmic surgical instruments (some patented)
  • Ongoing collaboration with the Science and Technology Center of Excellence (Ministry of Military Production) to manufacture prototypes for commercialization
